CONSERVATIVE ORTHODONTIC: LINGUAL ARCH

Tuesday, June 7th, 2011

Del 1 to the 4 June 2011 was held at the Palacio de Congresos de Barcelona the 57th Meeting of the Spanish Society of Orthodontics. The day 3 June at 12.00 h. presented the conference ” Conservative Orthodontics: Lingual Arch”. I presented a literature review of maintenance Drift Space, basic foundation of orthodontics Conservative, since 1947 published by Nance , Morrees, Singer, Gafhari, Profit, Rebelato, etc. The review also showed a table of the latest studies of the lingual arch made in different schools in the U.S., our study compared well with other authors as Gianelly, Dugoni,Rebellato, Villalobos, etc. In this comparison table demonstrate that our cases have an average of crowding 9.58 mm., 3 times more than other authors ( be our range 7 mm. and 18mm.); and our results were the 98% success, tanbien 3 times higher than other studies. The difference may be due to the use of a Fixed Lingual Arch Arches Active vs. used by other authors who were passive. It is also crucial to use 2 phases of orthodontic treatment. At the end of the communication were several clinical cases for the audience to see the severity of cases treated without extractions TOOTH order to protect the patient's face a collapse of the profile and prevent facial aging due to the retraction of the lips as a result of withdrawals received. As a final conclusion we can say that these treatments are beneficial to the aesthetics of the orthodontic patient and smile; be essential to initiate these Orthodontics in mixed dentition, or, still milk teeth. Being the right age for the 1st Orthodontics on 8-9 age, and the 2 nd to Orthodontics 11-12 years or so.

This presentation was held at the hall of the Palacio de Congresos HJ Barcelona on 1 June 2011 to 16.45 h. Brackets Autoligables

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

In recent years, has been written and much discussed by some practitioners of orthodontics on the self-ligating brackets using, saying that the treatment time decreases and that many of these treatments can be performed without tooth extractions in patients.
Well, I must say that, according to my friend and colleague Dr. Steve Marshall de Chicago , Professor at Universidad de Iowa, in his lecture of the Society of American Angle, Chicago 2010 ” Brackets Autoligables: Facts and Fictions” concludes that the patient's treatment time is the same as with other conventional brackets, this only depends on the friction of the bow into the slot of the bracket ; extractions of teeth that depend on the clinical diagnosis and the type of brackets used, even these create a dental expansion ( and skeletal) often do not want and if so there is a strong tendency to relapse due to lack of torque or torsion of the tooth axis.
These self-ligating are much more expensive than conventional ones and therefore the patient affects the cost of these brackets that are three times more expensive.
Only showed that the chair time for the patient is reduced 20 seconds / Arcade. Therefore, this is considered only a business for the multinationals that sell a product and some other professionals interested in marketing.
Also say that, more than 25 years are using these self-ligating, or not new, new technology or the use of these devices; such as brackets SPEED, being its referent Dr. David Musich de Chicago, professor at the University of Pennsylvania and Dr.. Donald Woodside, catedratico de la Universidad de Toronto, Canada.
